etiquette

Etiquette: the fundamental rule of etiquette is the consideration of one's fellow members and the course.

1. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.

2. The player who has the honour should be allowed to play before his/her opponent or fellow competitor tees their ball.

3. No player should play until the players in front are out of range.

4. In the interest of all, players should play without delay.

5. Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up to pass them. They should signal to the players following them to pass and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.

6. Before leaving a bunker a player should carefully fill up all holes made by him/her therein.

7. Through a green a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by him/her is replaced at once and pressed down and that after the player has holed out any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the player is carefully repaired.

8. Players should ensure that when dropping bags or the flagstick no damage is done to the putting green and that neither they nor their caddies damage the hole by standing close to the hole or in handling the flagstick. The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green.

9. When the play of the hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green and should not retry their putts or practice putting.

10. A player who has incurred a penalty should advise his/her opponent or marker as soon as possible.

11. It is the responsibility of the proposer and the seconder immediately a nominee is elected to membership; to see that such a new member is introduced to the other members and advised of all rules governing the conduct of the Club and above all, is sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the rules of golf to be competent to perform the duty of marker for a fellow compeitior. Please see that you play with your nominee until he/she is equipped.

All players in competition may break the round at the 9th or 18th to call at the Sprig Bar for refreshments without losing their position in the field, but must not unduly hold up the procedure of play.
