The weather conditions were near perfect for the 21 golfers who competed in the TDC Monthly Medal at the Penola Golf Course.
The score of the day came from the stick of Bill Cheers who finshed woth an inpressive 83 off the stick for a nett 65 to win the B Grade. He started slowly on the back nine, shooting 44 off the stick before firing up on the front ni ne. He also had a double bogey, then a bogey before having seven pars in a row. Grant Stephenson can count himself unlucky with his score of nett 68 only getting him runner-up. His flat stick was his saviour with only 25 putts helping him to win the putting competition. With two birdies and five pars he was flyoing undr the radar and looking good. The other two spots were taken out by Andrew Hutchesson over Dean Moore on a countback with both having a nett 70. Both players had a very good back nine finishing four under their handicaps. The A Grade was won by Lindsay Storer with a nett 70. Storer could have scored a little better with the 17th being a disaster considering his drive was in prime position before a near shank on his third shot made getting par near out of reach. The ever reliable Peter Walker is just like a good red, just gets better with age, to have a nett 71 for the runner-up. Again he seems to keep doing enough on nthe day to end up on the winners’ list. In third was Greg Hutchesson who came out firing early to finish with a nett 74. His driving was on song early, giving him every chance of making pars and after six holes was one over thanks to two birdies. This hard work was soon undone with two triple bogeys before the turn. Fourth was taken bu Jeremy Briggs who was having a break from the rigours of a strenuous vintage with nett 77. The C Grade was a little tighter with Mark Edwards nett 73 enough for the win. A chip in on the ninth was a highlight on his front nine and he too putted extremely well. A countback was needed for the runner-up with Ant Mathys over Allen Meyer both on nett 74. Further back was John Gregory on nett 78. Nearest the pin winners were Peter Walker on the seventh, Greg Hutchesson on the ninth with Bill Cheers taking out the best second on the 11th. Other prize winners were for long drive with Jeremy Briggs, John Wilkinson and John Gregory taking out A, B and C respectively. Full results here.
