The Penola Golf Club held its opening day on Saturday with wintry conditions greeting the large field of 41 golfers.
Majella Wines sponsored the day with a collection of wines up for grabs.
The event attracted both regular golfers and newcomers to the game.
The overall winners were the pairing of Roger Gibbs and Justin Robbie with a nett 60 to win the men's competition.
The duo used their entire handicap to the limit and may think of taking on more golf regularly with a very consistent card.
In second place were Andrew Hutchesson and Dean Moore with nett 62.25.
Both combined well and with Moore finding some of his past form they may consider themselves a little unlucky not to win.
The late pairing of Curt Evans and Shane McPherson was only just beaten by a quarter of a shot, finishing with nett 62.5.
In fourth was the young grouping of Logan Gibbs with Tim and Justin Mansell finishing with nett 66.
The mixed competition was closer with Judith Georgeson and Shane McMahon taking the honours with a nett 63.5.
The pair played consistently all day with a 35 on the front and 36 on the back nine.
Greg Hutchesson and Janice Coote were just behind on 63.75 and played well all day but watched their chance for the win slip away with two dropped shots on the last two holes.
Coming in third was John Mossop and Penny Young with nett 66.25.
Mossop was full of praise for the was he played but it was Young who complained about a sore back after carrying him all day.
The ever reliable Peter Walker partnered Helen Ferguson to once again finish in the top four with a nett 68.
The nearest the pin winners were Grant Stephenson on the seventh, Curt Evans the ninth, Penny Young on the 13th and John Gregory on the 16th.
The best third on the 17th for the men was Allen Meyer with Judith Georgeson for the women, both shots were within a metre with Georgeson's just gliding past the hole.
With a fun day being held the prized chocolate went to Allen Meyer and John Gregory who could not seem to gel.
Next week's event will be the first round of the club stableford trophy.
