With the weather being a little cooler than in previous weeks a field of 22 players took to the Penola Golf Course to compete in Round 3 of the club stableford trophy.
John Mossop returned to the winners circle with a score of 39 points to win the A Grade and have score of the day. He continued his good form from the old farmer’s golf on Thursday, scoring freely on the outward nine for 22 points. He slowed down a little on the back nine but was still good enough to get the win. Runner-up was Peter Lunnay who played some consistent golf to finish a shot back on 38. Lunnay began well with two pars before trouble on the fourth, which was his only blemish for the day. His back nine was good with numerous pars keeping the score ticking over. Back in third was captain Greg Hutchesson who has found form of late with 37 points. He had his driver working overtime but was wasteful around the greens, although he still managed to score on every hole for the day. Shame Anderson made the top four with 34 points, winning on countback over Lindsay Storer. The B Grade was closer with a countback needed with both players finishing with 38 points, with Sam Hill getting the nod from David Strumpupator. Hill parred the last two holes to storm to the front which cancelled out the three wipe-outs he had in his round. Strumpupator plodded along all day and he too had a purple patch at the end of the day, scoring 11 points on the last four holes but the wipe-out on the 14th cost him the win. There was clear daylight to the rest of the field with John Gregory shooting 32 points for third over Ant Mathys on 31 points. The Patrick of Coonawarra nearest the pin winners were Jock Agnew on the seventh, Adam Stephenson on the ninth and Greg Hutchesson taking the best second on the 11th. Mark Edwards knocked on to within a metre to take home the Redman Wines progressive NTP on the 13th. The prized chocolate for the NAGA went to Don Ferguson who amassed a meagre 24 points.
