Great weather finally greeted the 31 players who took part in the Katnnook Monthly Medal.

The score of the day came from Andrew Hutchesson who fired a 83 off the stick for a nett 67 to win the B Grade. His 7 pars for the day was the base of his impressive score where he managed to sink some massive putts to give him that winning edge.

The runner-up was Lofty Anderson who played his usual slow methodical game to come in with a nett 70. Nothing special stood out till the 14 where he birdie the hole. In third was Cheers Bill with a lazy nett 72 from Bill Williams on 73.

The A Grade winner was Lindsay Storer with nett 69. This was helped along by his very meagre putting which only yielded 25 and gave him the putting trophy also. He was on track for a par round on the back 9 till a bogey on the 18th.

The runner-up was Donald Ferguson with a nett 71 on countback from Chris Holden. In 4th was Nathan Williams who made a welcome return.

In C grade the winner was Ant Mathys who carded a nett 74. He did enough to win over the father son combination of Garrick and Curt Evans with Garrick beating his son with a nett 74 on countback. Trent Nankivell came in 4th with a nett 77.

The NTP winners were Nathan Williams on the 7th and D Ferguson on the 9th. Blue Kuhl found the green on 16th to win that hole with Lindsay Storer winning best 3rd on the 17th. The Naga went to Dean Moore who flexed his muscle and privilege on the first, but it was all in vain as the golfing gods laughed in his face and sent him to the end of the field.

The hard luck story of the day came from Mr IGA who complained that the hole distance on the 17th was wrong. On the card it states that the hole distance is 434 metres. Ned smashed his drive into the gum tree directly in front of the tee and sent his partners ducking for cover as the ball flew back at them heading for the 16th hole. He then trudged back to the ball which was now some 500 metres from the hole. Somehow this didn’t deter him as he managed a respectable bogey from what could have been a disastrous hole .

On Sunday 8 Penola golfers journeyed to Millicent to battle for the Beachport/Millicent/Penola Challenge trophy. Penola came out on top to take home the trophy thanks to Jock Agnew who played some impressive golf to par the course for 40 stableford points. Ant Mathys backed up his previous days score with 39 points. They were the standout golfers for the day and put Penola in the box seat to take it away from the host club who always seem to win. Well done boys, on a great team effort.
