A field of 18 golfers took to the Penola Golf Course for a par competition and with welcoming conditions scores looked promising.
The score of the day came from the B Grade with the smooth John Wilkinson playing consistently to finish three up. His front nine was outstanding with five pars but this was balanced out with three wipes going into the turn. Wilkinson finished his lunch and not only wiped his chin but also the first hole before steadying to finish the back nine one up. The runner-up was Dean Moore on 1 up who defeated Brad Mathys on countback. Both players started shaky but Moore had a purple patch on the back nine with four wins to get him over the line. The A Grade was won by the ever reliable straight down the middle chip and putt Peter Walker whi won with one down. The ex-President, John Mossop, was runner-up ranting that when he was in charge the A Graders always returned a plus score. Funny that his score was also in the negatives, finishing two down. In third was Chris Holden on three down from David Murray back on four down. The Patrick of Coonawarra nearest the pin winners were Chris Holden on the seventh, Wilkinson on the ninth by the smallest of margins and Nathan Williams had the best second on the 11th hole. The February Redman Wines progressive nearest the pin on the 13th was won by Greg Hutchesson. The chocolate for worst score went to David Boyd, which he seems to win regularly the week after he has score of the day from the previous week. Players are reminded that this Saturday’s competition will be the TDC Monthly Medal with some great prizes on offer. Full results here.
