An enthusiastic field took to the Penola Golf Course on Saturday for the Penola & District Community Bank Monthly Medal and despite nearly ideal conditions, scoring proved to be tough for the majority of the players.
Round of the day went to Peter Docking, firing a nett 67 to take the honours in C-Grade. Runner-up was Bill Cheers with a nett 69, followed by a slightly bruised Sam Hill (courtesy of a wayward approach by Lofty) in 3rd and Ant Mathys in 4th with nett 76 respectively.
In A-Grade, Jock Agnew saw some glimpses of old with a steady nett 71 to claim the win, ahead of John Mossop and Leo Price, both with nett 74s and Lindsay Storer with a nett 76 to claim 4th.
Over in B-Grade, scoring proved to be quite difficult. Chris Holden took the honours with a nett 74 over a count back from Andrew Hutchesson. Steven Skeer claimed 3rd with a nett 75 while Paul Harmer came 4th with a nett 77.
Long drives went to Angew, Skeer and Mathys in the A, B and C Grade respectively.
Cheers won nearest the pin on the 7th, Tony Gleeson claimed the 9th while “Stump” Murray had the best 3rd into the 17th.
The putting competition was won by Greg Hutchesson with a measly 27 putts, aiding in keeping his score to less than 100.
Next Saturday will feature the second round of the club Stableford Trophy with tee-off from 11:30. All welcome.
