Near perfect conditions saw 23 players at the Penola Golf Club for a Stableford round, with some excellent scores resulting.
The round of the day went to Allen Meyer in B-Grade with an impressive 40 points, 1 point clear of Bill Cheers. In 3rd was Ant Mathys with 38 points while John Gregory held on for 4th with 37 points.
In A-Grade, Lindsay Storer was a clear winner with 39 points, 3 clear of Andrew Hutchesson on 36 points. Leo Price and Greg Hutchesson came in 3rd and 4th with 34 and 33 points respectively.
Nearest the pin on the 7th went to Storer, Mathys took the 9th while John Wilkinson had the best 2nd on the 11th. The NAGA meanwhile was comfortably taken out by Shane Anderson.
The days play also saw the completion of the 1992 Top Dog Competition, deservedly won by Trent Nankivell over Chris Holden. Nankivell got away well, leading by 4 after 8 holes before Holden slowly reeled him in. However, when Nankivell sunk a 10-foot breaking putt on the 18th to halve the hole, the gallery went wild as he managed to secure victory, 1-up.
On Sunday, the A2 Pennant side took on Mt Gambier at Bordertown, claiming victory 3&2. Wins to John Mossop, Jeremy Briggs and Leo Price saw the boys home while Nathan Williams narrowly went down and Hutchy lost to someone planning on graduating primary school later this year.
Next week will feature another Stableford competition beginning at 11:30am. The Penola Golf Club will also be proud to host the Skipworth Cup, an annual challenge between Golf SE and Riverland Golf currently held by the former. Play will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, with some outstanding golf on offering.
